Objectives: The aimed of these core activities is to provide other avenues
of capacity building other than then those offered by AFRICA 2009.
Results:
The two professionals (from Kenya and Botswana) who were
given scholarships to pursue Masters Degree in Heritage Studies completed
their course. These
are former participants of the Regional Courses held in Mombasa.
Four
scholarships were provided to African professionals from Kenya (2), Botswana
and Zambia to attended ICCROM courses, one in Wood Conservation
held in Norway and on Sharing Conservation Decisions held in Italy.
Three
internships were also awarded. The first to Amekudi from Ghana to begin
to work on the creation of the Heritage Database in Mombasa. The
internship was hosted by PMDA. The other intern was offered to Ishanlosen
Odiaua from
Nigeria to work with CRATerre-EAG on developing material courses for
the
6 th regional course. Another was given to Bokar Kante form Senegal to
work on legal issues under the direction of Vincent Negri.
Exchange of
professionals also took place between Cameroon and Zimbabwe. The Cameroon
professionals spent two weeks on an exchange programme.
The AFRICA 2009
programme provided travelling grants to African professionals to attend
the meeting on Modern Heritage for Africa held in Asmara, Eritrea
from 4 – 7 March 2004. The meeting was organised by the UNESCO World
Heritage Centre in collaboration with AFRICA 2009.
