Publication

Objective:

To increase professional knowledge and awareness of key issues facing the conservation and management of the immovable cultural heritage of Africa both inside the African region and in the larger conservation community.

Structure: AFRICA 2009 intends to begin a publication series which would publish 1 or 2 volumes each year based on seminars and research projects carried out within the programme. A draft proposal has been developed and circulated both to the Steering Committee of the Programme and to the ICCROM publication committee (ICCROM will publish the series). It is expected that the first volume will appear during 2003 (a second volume may also be printed in 2003 if time permits).

In the meantime, AFRICA 2009 has been working with partners on the publication of several books. The programme contributed to the printing of a book and CD-ROM published by the Université Senghor on the topic of legislation and cultural heritage. A second publication, a photographic book on earthen mosques in Mali, was also published within the framework of the programme with advice given by CRATerre-EAG.

Results:

• Publication by the Université Senghor of Droit et Patrimoine en Afrique, edited by Vincent Negri
• Publication by Maison Européenne de la Photographie of Les Mosquées en Terre du Mali with text by Jean Dethier and Jean-Luc Monterosso and pictures by Sebastian Schutyser.
