Research Project: Survey of Training Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa

Objectives:

• To assess the variety and range of training opportunities available in Sub-Saharan Africa in this field.
• To help AFRICA 2009 to identify potential partners for various activities of the programme.

Structure: Ancila Nhamo an MA student from the University of Zimbabwe was engaged to do the research project. A questionnaire was sent to professionals, universities, museums and regional training institutions, and an internet search was carried out. From the results so far a relational database was then developed which will be updated as the search for information continues. At present most data comes from Anglophone countries, and an effort is being made to improve data collection in the Francophone countries.

Results: The project is ongoing, but a preliminary database has been developed.
